There are many different meanings for the word "alternative." The most common is "an alternative lifestyle," and it's a term used to describe an individual or group that doesn't follow a mainstream way of living. Living an alternative lifestyle can be challenging, but can also bring a lot of rewards, like more freedom and flexibility
Any lifestyle that diverges from what society considers "normal". Alternative lifestyles can differ in just about anything: eating habits, fashion, politics, religion and sexual orientation. Some of these lifestyles are considered alternatives for their unique perspectives on life but other lifestyles such as veganism or polyamory are considered alternatives because they aren't mainstream or accepted.
. Alternative lifestyles are not automatically “weird” or “unconventional” – well-adjusted people might have alternative hobbies, live with alternative roommates, or choose to pursue alternative degrees. An alternative lifestyle could also be something as simple as eating a vegetarian diet or practising yoga. For others, though, an alternative lifestyle goes much deeper than just these choices – it can encompass religion and sexual orientation, age and gender norms, race and ethnicity.
